Artist like My Mine, Kano, Danuta, Savage...even Boys Boys Boys by Sabrina Identity/Graffiti -I grew up listening to rap music. One of my favourite albums was then (and still is) the indie-rap classic "Funcrusherplus" by Company Flow. It's kind of dark and chaotic rap music with lo-fi production and the lyrics have many references to graffiti. They even have song called "Lune Tns" which only about dropping names of graffiti artists. In "8 Steps to perfection" the rappers brag about organized graffiti, that society can't controll. Other works of El-P, the mastermind behind Company flow are interesting as well. -One of the favourite rap groups of my teenage days was also Swedish underground/indie group called LoopTroop. Many of their songs are about graffiti. Just to mention "Ambush In the Night" and "Spraycan Stories", which as much about stealing spraycans as painting graffiti. To an adult their lyrics sound naive, but case of a 16-year-old boy was completely different. Both Compaly Flow and LoopTroop had the "fuck the society"-attitude and anarchistic political message. Corrupt local politics/Identity There is a ton of rap songs about corrupted/racistic/violent police departments. Maybe the "Fuck the Police" by N.W.A is official anti-police anthem. Yeah, I took a lot of influences from that song as well, when I was searching my identity. |
