Wreckamovie Platform > Re-branding the platform > Movie ranch by: Pierre Heinen
Hello platform,
well while looking around for some ideas, I came across the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movie_ranch and checked it up as domain name (well movie-ranch.com is still available).
I thought it could be an easy name for such a platform as wreckamovie.
Imagine when you register first to this site, you are classified as a "gringo" for example, the mods as "sheriffs" ... Imagine the platform as a "real" ranch ... Don't know if such a wild-western-style is maybe a too big change of the actual look-and-feel?
It's an idea :)

Changing the artistic feel to a wild-west motif is....a really bad idea.
:(
Sorry.

I'm going to jump in this with both feet, so please pardon if the text comes across as rather short. :)
Home page: A slightly better understanding of what the site is about up front (-added tagline under the header maybe?)
Users/viewers need to be hit instantly with what the main purpose of the site is about. Even a few seconds of scratching heads can be enough to drive them away. Sad as it may be those first few milliseconds of time are becoming more and more important for websites.
I'm not sure of it's the color/lack of over all contrast or what, but it takes a few seconds before one picks up on the "make a movie with us". That will help.
Social Media: It's a potent source of information exchange, which turns into page views, and thus into users. I think WaM could improve this aspect of their site a bit more.
*Allow for individual tasks to be able to be promoted?
* The main site itself has no promotion quick-links. This may be a design feature to streamline the look, but I think the usefulness of the social media link power would be greatly beneficial.
Social-site like features?
Without bogging everything down and drawing WaM away from it's original purpose; maybe putting forth some of the various communication/socialization tricks/functions of various social sites up for vote by WaM users? See if they want/need specific functions?
Ex.
*chat features for various productions w/ a "who's online" option for users.
Gallery of works for individual users:
Not a full gallery per say - but maybe links to accepted works, or a partnership with a gallery site to show off works done for various productions?
The name: I say keep it. WaM has been around long enough to be known fairly well. It's a drawing factor, makes people curious.
However if you are pulling away from the more, almost steam-punk-esque feel - the raw, common-man approach and into something more refined you will need to change the name. The question then stands, what is your core intent?

Putting a chat funcion in here? NO.
And keep Facebook's "Like" button the hell OUT of it.
Wreckamovie Platform > Re-branding the platform > Appealing to everybody by: Gert-Jan Van de Voorde
I think that the site should keep a neutral lay out, without being boring of course but most of the fun should come from other people.
This neutral layout should be welcoming for as many people as possible and give the site an open and respectable feel.
Respectable, because when trying to brand Wreckamovie out in the open, also professionals could be persuaded to, at least, try the website.
**The Name of the site**
Originally WAM was made for the production of Starwreck, from which the old dinosaurs like the verb 'to Wreck', for example. The question remains if it would be better to get rid of these words, or to keep them and use them as a signature.
Personally I opt for the second opinion. There are a lot of companies and websites with questionable names, in the music industry the company 'Two Steps From Hell' for example. The trick is of course producing a series of successful movies and to link these movies visibly to this site.

user experience: A bit more contrast would help I think. Darker grays in certain areas would keep to the overall general appearance. :)
I'd have to think a bit about the rest.... it is a difficult need.

Sorry to not get back to this sooner. :)
Promotional links: Google +1, Facebook like, diggit, etc. You have the "Share" feature already in some places, why not widen it's reach to individual shots, etc?

I use FireFox, and yes I've got Flash Plug-In installed (I've got all plug-ins and extensions and add-ons such as java, flash, etc.).
