Valkaama Released

Posted January 27, 2010 by Tim Baumann 2 Thumb-ups

Finally done... We are proud to release the final version of Valkaama with Michael Georgi's music score. You can download your copy on www.valkaama.com.

It was a long and stony road to get this movie done and still we are giving it away for free: Valkaama becomes one of the few full-length movies which are licensed under one of the Creative Commons licenses.

Even more... with the Open Source approach and the usage of the Creative Commons by-sa 3.0 license for the movie and its source material, Valkaama entered almost completely new terrain. We hope to give a positive example so that more "Open" or "Free" movies will follow and that there will be more and more source material available under free content licenses.

You are welcome to copy/remix/mashup/share our movie and the source material and if you like, please support us by donating or buying a DVD of Valkaama. We are giving the movie away for free but that doesn't mean it has cost us nothing in terms of time and money.

Support free culture! Thank you and have fun with the movie :)

With added music, opening sequence and credits Valkaama now is a complete movie and hence the first Open Source feature film. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source_film)

You can watch and download the current version of the movie on www.valkaama.com.

Maybe someone will/can make a professional English dubbing sometime.

The camerawork is excellent, it looks very professionally shot. The story is also very intriguing, it makes you want to watch to find out what happens next. All in all, a very good example of what open source can achieve.

The one downside for me is going to sound weird coming from a native english speaker: I wish this film wasn't in english. I wish the actors had used their own languages.
