Griffin Sharp takes on cybercrime in F-Secure and Wreckamovie collaboration
Feb 10, 2010:
The Griffin trailer is out! The Griffin Internet TV series brings alive the fight against cybercrime like no other, presenting a unique way to raise awareness for Internet security issues.
Helsinki, Finland – February 10, 2010: Griffin is a made-for-Internet TV series of fictional episodes about online crime, developed by a web community of enthusiasts on the Wreckamovie platform, in co-operation with Internet operators. F-Secure is supporting the Griffin series by giving its insight into the fight against cybercrime – a real-world battle it has already been waging for more than 20 years.

The six-part series tells the story of Griffin Sharp, a good guy with a complex past in the world of cybercrime. The Wreckamovie community is creating the stories, the script and the visuals, and will also take part in the actual filming. Wreckamovie produced “Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning”, the most widely downloaded, made-for-Internet movie in the world.
Each Griffin episode takes place in a different country, and will be produced by local start-up crews and volunteering enthusiasts. F-Secure and the Wreckamovie community are inviting major Internet operators for partnership in this innovative project, which will bring the drama of the fight against cybercrime to millions of people worldwide. This approach will also help consumers understand modern IT threats in a better way.
Antti Reijonen, VP Consumer Business and Marketing at F-Secure says, “Partnering Internet operators will have the opportunity to have a relevant part in the plot. The social network aspect of the production method also provides a unique opportunity for operators to assemble a community of movie enthusiasts from their local consumer base to participate in the creation of this series. It represents a totally new category in the history of motion pictures.”
The Griffin series will be distributed free of charge on the Internet.
Speaking at the launch of the Griffin trailer during F-Secure’s SPECIES conference in Vienna, Timo Vuorensola, the producer of Griffin, said, “This trailer is just the pirkinning of the journey for Griffin Sharp. The cybercrime theme has attracted a great response from the Wreckamovie community and people from tens of countries have already joined the production. We are always amazed by the global nature of everything, talent and creativity really is everywhere. The poster art for Griffin was designed in Jakarta, Indonesia and we have already received great input for the script all the way from Australia to Germany and Canada. And now that people can see the trailer and get a feeling for the look and feel of the series, we expect even more people to join the fun of making a cybercrime series together.”

I'm wondering if you knew about the botnet attack on Latvia several years ago - that completely shut down their Internet service - including the government. It was a retaliation by the Kremlin for moving a WWII Soviet War Memorial and had to be counterattacked by "The Vetted" - four top security computer experts known to outsmart hackers.
Today...
Any more news? :)
Griffin hits 100 Wreckers

Thank you all for joining Griffin!
We hit 100 wreckers already, not a bad start. Spread the word and invite your friends, who knows, we might hit 1000 wreckers before we know it.
And now is the right time to suggest locations and ideas for the script.
Happy wrecking!

Kris, you just gave me an idea for a new task:-)
Once you've got a cast member confirmed, you could do another teaser with them watching that video (maybe they're sipping a coffee while watching it, or some other non-activity).
As for the 2nd sponsor... I think I know who you mean... :D
Glad you like the name! Project WORM was more of a placeholder in any case. Now we just need to recruit 100s of more wreckers and get going. Seems like we are off to a pretty good start. And I think the teaser with Mikko Hypponen is pretty good as well, even contains some pretty obvious spoilers of who our soon to be announced 2nd sponsor is;-)
Griffin is a much better name for this production by the way. :)
Hurrah! :P

F-Secure and makers of Star Wreck join forces on fictional series about online threats
Oct 27, 2009:
Two Finnish innovators, Internet security provider F-Secure and the producers of “Star Wreck - In the Pirkinning”, the most widely downloaded, made-for-Internet movie in the world, have joined forces to produce a fictional TV series for free distribution on the Internet.
Helsinki, Finland – October 27, 2009: The made-for-Internet TV series F-Secure and the Wreckamovie community are collaborating on is called “Griffin”. The series tells the story of Griffin Sharp, a good guy with a complex past in the world of cybercrime. It will initially have six episodes each taking place in a different country. “Griffin” is being developed by a web community of enthusiasts on the Wreckamovie platform. The community is creating the stories, the script, visuals and will also take part in the actual filming.
Timo Vuorensola, the producer of “Griffin” says: "Our culture is becoming more and more participatory as seen in the evolution of the web over the last few years. With Star Wreck we invited the community to participate in the creation of the movie and we got a tremendous response. With “Griffin” we are taking this even further and working very closely with the Wreckamovie community from day one."
F-Secure is supporting the project by giving its insight to the world of the fight against cybercrime.
Mikko Hypponen, Chief Research Officer at F-Secure says: "All the stories in “Griffin” are going to be based on real things that have happened online. We want to show people what to look out for when they're out there on the web. And if we get it right, this will be both exciting and entertaining. So stay tuned."
The pilot of “Griffin” will be available in 2010. You can join the “Griffin” community and be part of the story at www.wreckamovie.com/griffin. To watch the teaser, go to www.youtube.com/FSecureNews

Visit to F-Secure HQ

In order to make Griffin (aka Project WORM) more realistic, the production team visited F-Secure global HQ and talked to Mikko Hypponen.

Lots of interesting discussion and insight. Let's just say that sometimes reality is even more amazing than fiction...

Another Reason-Phrase (Status Code) similar error is "410: Gone", which indicates that the requested resource has been intentionally removed and will not be available again. 403: Forbidden. 404 is UK slang for "being clueless." 404 also means "forbidden content" or "illegal" for viewing. Excellent symbolism with the typewriter - going back to manual drive. But what is causing 404 to appear on everyone's computer?
Brilliant storyline/plot. Has great potential for another Matrixesque marque.
Sign me on.

That's grand, really love it!
I used a typewriter when I was very little, but it soon disappeared in favour of a computer... :/
Well, I know one. Used to type my school homework on one at primary school, just for the fun of it. ^_^
Angela, there's a rumour that the British government has a huge cache of typewriters just in case some sort of EM pulse wipes out their computer infrastructure. I wonder how many people know how to use one nowadays...
That's coolness all the way.
A typewriter... just brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!
Awesomeness :D
The trailer is just the beginning...
Wow, what a trailer.
It's good, the suitcase at the end is a nice touch... :)
