Here is a poster based on the title of the movie. Since the objective of the film is open-ended at this point it is based on the title words rather than actual footage.

Much improved! I prefer the one with the person near the edge.

I love the Hitchcockian design, Lesli! In fact i liked it so much, that i couldn't resist dabbling with it. It was a shame it was on such a low res. And i felt the font is too Windows standard for a poster. So i made two freely scaleable vector versions based on your work: http://siljani.kuvat.fi/wam/life+on+the+edge/ You can freely use and change them as you will. The font is called Hitchcock (not included).

What does it mean to "Live on the Edge? Tell your short stories about Life on the Edge in narrative, pictures, film. Don't think about it too much, tell what comes to your mind. Multiple stories over time? Fine. Goal: 50 Stories, 10 or more participants by January 1st.

Life on the Edge > Take your shot and post an edge story > Cynthia's Shot: Living on the Edge of Rural and Urban Life
by: Cynthia DuVal

Where I live I feel and see the edge of rural and urban life. The edge is where city/country, farmer/suburbanite, farmland/wilderness meet and where deep feelings and conflicting interests are starkly juxtaposed. We have herds of Elk living alongside dairy cows in pasture land that has been worked by farmers for many years. A delicate balance has evolved and to look out across the land in the rural area it looks peaceful. Elk graze the fields in the evening while the dairy cows are resting. Across the street there are parcels of farmland interspersed with neighborhood developments and the farmland in this area can now be purchased for development. An old barn, an owl's home, the tree where the mating hawks perch to hunt, all of these things will soon be gone. The small nearby town has lost revenue from the car dealerships because very few people are buying cars as we all try and survive the recession. Municipal budgets are slashed. Businesses have closed, schools are struggling, the local fair is not being funded, the elders are losing funding, the food bank can't keep up. Juxtaposed with these economic challenges is the need to preserve the farmland and wildlife in the area as part of a sustainable living strategy. Is this an American story or is it a global story?

The problem with overpopulation is that even if people agree it's a problem, no one is going to give up having children. And by definition, those who do give up having children are the least likely to pass their attitudes on to the next generation. I'm afraid I don't have any images of the farm in digital form, it's been many years since I was there last and I didn't own any kind of digital camera in those days.

What an interesting concept to contemplate, your family has owned a farm for longer than our country has existed. Also, the point you make about global food production making problems for small farmers; here in the US we are seeing the early times of a "local food" movement. We have huge farms that farm commodities like corn, wheat, rice in the midwest and then here in the Northwest, we have much smallerl farms growing organic produce. I expect that we need a better balance of the two types of farming and embrace both to sustain life into the future. What isn't happening here in the US anymore is dialogue about the tragedy of overpopulation and how that continues to threaten sustainability.
