Star Wreck 2pi: Full Twist, now! | Important annoucement To we got the news that we will inherit the fortune from our grand-aunt Vreni which passed away shortly.
It's quite a lot of money, so that we decided to reshoot most of the movie using real sets. Also bad actors will be replaced by better one at the same time. And while we're at, we're chaging the story, too, since can finally do the movie as we really wanted to do that.
Due to that stuff the movie premiere will be on 1st April 2014.

either way, good to hear Samuli is still not giving up on Star Wreck and just writing a new screenplay :P
@Carl; in the original version of Iron Sky, it is indeed so that the Germans speak German when they're among themselves while the others speak english. This is of course much cooler and I think, also for non-German speaking audiences it creates a more authentic athmosphere. You should definitely check it out on DVD once that's out.
(and it seems to be released pretty soon, at least in UK, as we keep hearing...)

Already been contacted, thanks. She has not given me her list of questions (I guess my reluctance to communicate over anything other than WAM makes that part a bit difficult), but I have shared the basics.
I watched IS twice too. The first time I was dead tired, but was wide awake throughout the whole movie right past the credits. Made me miss the last bus though, and I had to walk back several km.
It was a bit slow going, the story was not immediately apparent. IMO they could have gone on right ahead and made it a bit longer, to flesh it out a bit more.
The second time it was better, as I was ready for the jokes, and could follow the storyline. I also had a ride home, as I took a friend.
I still need to see the English version. IDK whether it will be better. Usually they are, but these actors actually did their own translations. I tend to hate German versions of movies because the same 10 people do the voice-overs for all the world's actors (they just don't have Japan's selection of voice-actors). So, yeah, Kirby and Sergeant's voice-over seemed very familiar and out-of-place.
I wonder whether the DVD and Blu-Ray versions will give us the option to watch it with natural voices (Germans German, Americans American) and respective subtitles.
Making a prequel should be simplified due to the fact that they can just build upon the Operation Highjump stuff. A sequel seems right, especially after that gloomy but hopeful ending, I just can't imagine how to do it (actually I can, but it's likely not everyone here would agree with my suggestion. I'll elaborate if we get to that bridge).
Borders and the corresponding travel-restrictions (meaning passports) are a "new" invention hailing back to around 1920. There was war before then. Interaction, interconnection can spell peace, but how is it achieved? Is it done through voluntary interaction? Do we need falling borders? Like in the EU? Do we need someone to tell us to interact? What is the reason Greece "failed"? What is happening in Iceland? What is happening in America, and Canada? Right now? Is the media talking about these things? Why not? Does anyone know what the "hidden gun" is? Does anyone care? Or does everyone prefer to see issues from a feel-good perspective rather than striking the root?
Oh politics. Screw politics! I'm suffering from debate-fatigue right now. You can only make logically-sound arguments to debate-partners unwilling to listen to reason -or at least check the facts for themselves- so often. You can only push past ad-hominems and strawmen for so long until you have to realize that you are talking with fanatics.
So I've taken a break from that, and I guess it allows me to be more productive right here on WAM.

You both have a valid point there. It is worrying the IS crew could be typecast as nazi movie makers.
I, too had a brief conversation with a concentration camp survivor. I was 17 and at a big youth conference with hundreds of eyes on us. I walked on the podium, and asked if she felt the falling of borders and the greater interconnectedness could prevent war.
She said: "I don't know. What do you think?"
There I was, on the hot seat, with a 1000 people watching me. Never felt so alone in my life.
And I blabbered something about how more interaction means better understanding, and how that should spell peace. I seemed to speak well, since when I walked back to my seat, the girl next to me was crying. That's when I knew the power of peace, speech and empathy.
Nazis should be ridiculed, but also understood. It's just too easy to make them just baddies. And it's very important to understand, under harsh times people can fall under misguided leaders. Greece today is such.

I fear more that guys will marked for a certain time with the tag: "The ones which make Nazi-Movies".
They should do something completely different before going back to IS and Nazis. But that's just my opinion.

I think your SB credit was "Background Photography". Haven't seen the film for quite some time now ;P
Well I must admit, when I just read that 3D Hitler thing it really made me cringe. I always had a bit of a worry that IS might turn into some kind of "nazi-porn" and to kind of milk that nazi style as of cashcow now, even throwing Hitler into the mix - of course in 3D - has a real bitter taste to it.
Of course this is a kind of German view and things. To remind you once again, we had a concentration camp survivor in our school in 4th grade - yes, we were 10 years old - who told us about the horrors he had to live through. That kind of spoils the idea of making fun of the 3rd reich for a lifetime =/

Wow, if I'm in the credits, I gotta update my CV :)
Kalle - What was my credit on Snowblind, again? Snowblind was another completed miracle. I don't mind the IS prequel and sequel idea, as I can kinda see the dramatic possibilities of the prequel, at least. But 3D Hitler feels really stupid, yet ambitious...
Carl - that's just how I felt. I'd love to hear how other fans took it. The first time I watched it I was in a state of euphoria. I had to go see it again alone to get a more realistic viewpoint.
I just did an interview with Isis Hjorth, who is writing her dissertation on WAM and communal filmmaking. If she hasn't contacted you yet, would you like me to direct you to her?

well I didn't do any groundbreaking work for Iron Sky either, but I think they were nice enough to put everyone in who racked up some significant Karma value on the project. Cause giving feedback and so on is also helping a lot ^_^
Anyway, yeah, I feel the same way. It's really a miracle that the film is actually any good (I can't emphasize that enough with my own record of trying to make feature films, hehhe) and that makes it all the bigger achievement for the guys!
Also your last point is very true, here is at last a chance that interesting things might happen in the movies during the coming years.
A bit of a letdown in my mind is the recent announcement of a sequel and prequel to Iron Sky. That sounds all too familiar to me. On one hand I'm sure I'd do it the same way if I'd had any success, but I don't know how it will go down with the fans who like Iron Sky for being some kind of anti-Hollywood.
Well, we'll know soon enough ^_^

You were, Kalle. I think I saw Jani, and I definitely saw Thierry. I'll have to watch it again. Too bad you can't legally make screencaps in-theater :(
I have to agree with what Jani said, the movie turned out nice! I thought Prückner did a wonderful job too.
Thank you for putting into words what I generally feel about this film.

Kalle, I dunno if I'm in the credits. Never thought I'd be, so I didn't check.
I didn't do all that much stuff for Iron Sky, besides some early brainstorming, some probably unused AD stuff and the Truth Today logo. Gotta check on Bluray in slomo - but I won't get depressed if I'm not in.
I didn't feel I could be of much use once the production entered the commercial phase, so I let Timo and the crew do their thing.
I've seen it twice - And it's a very uneven, but impressive movie.
The plot was clever, and I LOVED many of the more subtle themes.
Dietze was fantastic, Otto fine and Udo menacing. Unfortunately Kirby was given awfully bad "black man" dialogue, and that character never worked. The American characters, overall, felt like Europeans wrote 'em.
The FX was a marvel. With that budget, ILM wouldn't bother doing a single explosion on a quiet Monday. And yet Torssonen et al made it frikkin' amazing on a shoestring.
What I REALLY missed was a biiiig buildup to the final space battle. An epic battle feels only as big as the buildup. In Star Wreck: ITP they got it right, so it was kinda weird on Iron Sky the climax "just happened" among all the stuff going on.
I give it 3 stars outta 5.
Anyways, I always felt Iron Sky was more important as a pioneer project, than as a movie. The fact it was finished at all was a miracle. That it was any good was über-God -stuff.
I mean, as opposed to a basic Hollywood action movie, Iron Sky had to overcome: Very heavy budget restrictions, need to break standard production procedure, political opposition, very dispersed production locations, storms (literally), cynics, Finnish movie establishment, limited recourses all around.
And they created more than a good movie: A new way of making them, lessons for filmmakers of all kind, inspiration for many, a working funding model for genre films, and a platform for actually making it real at WAM.
And HOPE.
Most importantly hope.
If you dream wildly enough, have talent or know where to find it, and you work smartly and diligently.... It really, really can happen for you.
