Where do we stand?
| Posted June 16, 2011 by David Jansson 2 Thumb-ups |
I need to make a confession.
I suck at organizing things. I get stressed out and flee and don't dare return to the project page for several months.
Some things learned.
HD takes one helluva time to render.
17 second space scenes take one helluva time to render, and are too long for the flow.
If I finish this, there will probably be more stills used than originally planned. More "anime tricks".
No more HD. The 3d isn't complex enough to warrant it anyway.
Anyone wants to help drive this project, please step up. You get a free whip and full rights to use it on me. (Well, maybe not, but still.)
HD render

The HD render has some very obvious clipping problems, but it took a long time to render. So it will have to do. Will try and see if there are any settings I can make different for the next scene.
I think I will do as Lee crystal said and try making the engineer scene next. I have actually forgotten to make the engineering bay that is supposed to show in the background...
I might set up a task for .blend objects that fit in an engineering bay...
Lip sync

I made my first speech animation now. I have no idea if it's synced, as no-one has taken the job of voicing the captain yet.
It's the single word "Hey!".
I am finding myself in a bit of confusion. I don't know what scenes to finish first. My script has a chronological story, my planning skills aren't enough when I don't have the voice acting to actually create the scenes in the order they are in the script...
Part of this is because while I have a general idea of how every scene will play out, I haven't got a detailed plan for them though, which is part of the problem. I am kind of winging it.

Some day, I will remember to buy that new microphone. I promise.... *blush*
Do my part first, you have my voice. :)
I know that. ^^ My friend has been here few times, but I have totally forgotten this...
There has been some expressed interest, but no one has actually made a whole set of lines. The first one to do it reasonably well gets the part. :)
Is that captain still free? I think my friend (that same) is coming to us after about a week to play with Warhammer miniatures (Yay!) and I might ask him...
Stick Wreck goes full HD

Yes, you read the topic right.
Having access to high-end machines at HUMlab has given me delusions of grandeur!
Stick Wreck will be in Glorious 1920×1080, so you will be able to fully appreciate the simplicity of the modeling done. Uhm. Yeah.
Progress report

Work is slowly, but steadily, going forward. I am animating a bit now and a bit then at HUMlab.
Slowly, but steady.

Not really, doing animation. Not rendering yet. The next two weeks will be filled with studying though. Got a bunch of Neurology, Cognitive Psychology, computer/programming architecture, linguistics and cognitive philosophy to know for the next exam.
anything uploadable yet?
Slowly, but steady ;)

Please continue with this but don't hurry. My Sample is already getting serious problems because it has been on hold so much but I just have to finish my android game... and a rodent... and a mutant... lol.
As Kalle said, do the full rendering at the end of the project and you could also use renderfarm.fi to do the job.
You should only render in HD in the very end, when you already know that everything works. For now, you should only render everything as a proxy, like quarter-size, to find out if your animations work, the edit is right, the audio fits and all that kind of stuff.
To force yourself to concentrate on the work, you can make lists where you give yourself deadlines for each shot. Also, you can cross out every completed shot with a big red pen. That always gives me a lot of satisfaction and helps to keep the motivation up ;D
My advice is: Stick to it! (pun intended hehhe) You will forever be angry with yourself if you have an unfinished project lying around...
Wreck On,
Kalle-Max ^_^
Can you define helluva time?
In Star Wreck 2pi helluva time means 4 s clip = 3 weeks of render.
