Steampunk > Gideons costume design > Steampunk Costume designer
by: Shelly Vallancourt

I am a steampunk costume designer and would love to work on this project! Some examples of my work are attached. While I do not have a lot of men's clothing at the moment, I would love to submit some pieces! Further examples can be found at http://www.inhalecorsets.com

Steampunk culture is heavy into on costume design. I feel it is the centerpeice for the fans. So we will need to blow people away with the costumes. Gideon is the main character of the film, he needs to be able to move quickly and he doesn't worry too much about taking care of his clothes. here is a couple images that make me think of guideons character.

it wont let me upload my blend file for some reason, my email is doug@snowcapstudios.com i can email it to you. sorry about that I'm looking for another blender artist with a lot of knowledge in rigging. the legs were modeled in such a way they need to be limited so they can only bend one way and only so far. I can't figure out how to limit the limbs. also i need to remodel the arm joints. you will see what I mean when you open it. they bend the worst way possible to get any good movement. i was thinking a ball joint but even that might not be practical for a robot. also as far as texture goes i can't figure out how to make it not move when the robot moves.

Map the texture with an empty and parent the empty to the torso or map it with orco mapping instead of global.

Add the constraint "limit rotation" to the bones in question. It can be found among the constraints in the object panels.

I have absolutely no problem uploading .blend files. Give it another try, if it doesn't work I'll PM you my email-address.

Edit: That robot in the poster needs better knee and hip joints as well if you want to animate it using it's legs for anything else than walking straight.

Steampunk > story > preliminary

Arr, me hearties! I'd like to begin by airing out any ground rules and expectations: I most enjoy what is nowadays called: nominal brainstorming, the writers bull session, throwing out ideas and hammering them into shape together, much as you seem to be requesting. Therefore, as idiotic as it sounds, it seems I actually need to ask: if I join in, participate and work together with you all, can I count on others to simply try to hold up each one's end of the conversation instead of quickly losing interest and trailing off from each new shot in turn? I ask, because this has been a problem, and expectations to the contrary are invalidated by consensus here on this forum. As soon as we can clarify the above, I'd like to start by tightening up your logline. Also, if only first we can see eye to eye, procedurally, it would also be great if you'd reciprocate by joining in at my production, 'Rogue Earth'. Please advise.

Yes, a story at all must be regarded as essential.

New task: Other costumes

There are several characters that need dramatic costumes in the film. here are a few.

Captain Cogsworth
This is the most know pirate in all of the skies, his crew steals everything and gives him the best of it. he dresses very expensive, but gets dirty himself. So he would need to be able to swash buckle and swing from ship to ship.

Emma
she is the love interest of Gideon, she would need to have something to obscure her face like a half mask or something so she is not recognizable at first.

The Architect
The architect would be very simple but a very worn styalized lab coat. he is a very thin and frail man that doesn't talk much, his clothes would need to show what a dignified character he is. (there doesn't have to be a lab coat just a suggestion.)

also there are plenty of extras to design for.
