Thanks to everyone for past feedback. I've made some tweaks. Mostly added a few sight gags to this draft, and tightened up the dialogue a bit. This is the final draft, so at long last we can move forward.
Regarding the hotly debated "boobs and goo" ending: I've decided to leave it in. It's logically motivated, as the only way to combat a boredom creature is by creating excitement. And as my Groupsite team member John Oakley pointed out:
"...if it's done right, it could be very funny. You don't even have to show anything -- could be a view from behind as the women 'flash' everyone, with everything expressed as reactions."
Next up: creating an assets library of still and video clips, extracted from the Star Trek Animated Series DVDs. Then, creating a storyboard.
I'm going to get an library started over at the Groupsite page.

When our fearless leaders here at wreckamovie get their file hosting set up, I'll port everything over here too.
New YouTube channel for ST:JAN files

I've set up a YouTube account for this project:
http://www.youtube.com/user/justadnauseum
Animatics and rough cuts can eventually get posted here, for review and feedback. Right now there are two test clips, ripped from DVDs of the animated series.
I used Mac the Ripper to extract the episodes and MPEG Streamclip to convert the VOB files to Quicktime. I wasn't sure whether to choose 640x480 or 720x480 when converting, so I tried it both ways. 640 looks normal on my Mac, and on YouTube as well when I uploaded an excerpt. 720 looks squashed, on the Mac and on YouTube. It's the old square vs. rectangular pixels thing. Even though the 640 is resampled, quality looks fine to me. So maybe we should stick with that. (If there are any techies out there who'd like to dissuade me, now would be the time to speak up!)

Updated script posted

So there's been a long hiatus since last summer when I set this project up here at Wreckamovie and also over at http://stjan.groupsite.com.
The good news is, most of the delay was because a feature screenplay I co-wrote made the finals in the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition. In October, my writing partner Skot and I went to Austin and our script, The Sensitivity Program won a coveted Bronze Typewriter Award in the sci-fi category.
Since then we've been working on a re-write, and fielding inquiries from agents, managers and producers.
Despite all this success, I still feel compelled to push forward with this silly little Star Trek cartoon. I recently tightened up the script a bit. You can read the new draft here: http://bwtc-movie.com/ST-JAN_D5.pdf
I'm still looking for input on the script, encouraging voice talent to send me links or audio samples, and for animators who want to help out to sign up!
Thanks!
-John

Hey John, well done on your award, and nice to see you back here! Sorry for not replying straight away, been out of the country.
Your script is even more excellent than I remember it, and my comments pretty much stand (so the only reservations I have are about some elements in the ending):

I can't really help with voice talent, but let me know if I can do something else.
The script looks very good, let's hope we get some more people onboard and get it done.

"Star Trek: Just Ad Nauseum" is an homage/parody featuring the original Star Trek characters. The script is my original work, but all the visuals will be repurposed and remixed from DVDs of the old 1970s-era Star Trek cartoon.
Since this is a fan film, based on copyrighted material, ST: JAN is necessarily a not-for-profit venture. Participants will receive DVD copy and credit - and a bunch of views on YouTube I'll bet!
"Just Ad Nauseum" is more than a film, it's an experiment in online collaboration with the end goal being the creation of a virtual animation studio that could work together on future projects. The filmmaker is an award-winning writer/director based in Santa Rosa, CA USA

Star Trek: Just Ad Nauseum has a new home!
| Posted August 07, 2009 by John Harden 1 Thumb-up |
Hello everyone,
After some consideration, I've decided to move my animation project to a new home:
Groupsite offers a pretty robust set of features: discussion boards, a blog, the ability to upload files... I think I've finally found the right home for this "virtual studio" experiment. I will keep this wreckamovie account, and the one I started over at IndieGoGo, going for at least a while, to encourage people to click over to the main site.
So: no aspersions whatsoever cast toward wreckamovie and the friendly people here! I appreciate the script feedback and other comments you've given.
I want to encourage all interested people to come over to http://stjan.groupsite.com/ and see what I'm setting up there.
I'm still looking for animators, people with Photoshop skills, and voice talent, but I also want people who are just generally interested in the project to add their opinions and suggestions.
I think over there you have to request membership and then I approve you. Thanks for sticking with me as I stumble around, trying to figure this stuff out...! And best of luck to all of you, with your own projects.
Best regards,
-John Harden

Agree. There are pros and cons for both, hopefully we can help getting stuff done here on Wreckamovie.
Thanks Peter. As I move along I learn, and discover pros and cons of both methods of working. Being at Wreckamovie offers a large community of people who are already interested in getting involved. The dedicated Groupsite page is nice to have, but I have to recruit and drive individuals to the site by networking, posting announcements various places, etc.
Thanks for the vote of confidence John! We'll try to live up to it!
Addendum: Peter V. here at Wreckamovie has been very engaged and has convinced me of the wisdom of sticking with the Wreckamovie community. So we'll try a hybrid effort for a while and see if that works. I will keep updating news and tasks here at Wreckamovie and on Groupsite as well, so members will be up to date whether they are members here or there.
Tally ho-

About the ending, for me personally it was that the rest of the script was so verbal and witty, whereas the ending seemed more like a "gross-out" kind of comedy style.
Sort of like being at a classical concert and the last performance is death metal, they're both potentially good genres if they're done correctly, but it is weird to see them unexpectedly mixed right at the end. :)
The other alternative is to imply something without showing it. For example the ending of Clerks is absolutely revolting but it is never shown directly, so it fits the witty style of the rest of the film.
But you're the boss, you go with what you think is right. And as I said in my original shot, this is a very amusing script. I hope you'll be able to find all the material you need!
Great stuff, really funny.....
