Snowblind now on the VODO start page

Posted December 05, 2010 by Kalle Max Hofmann 4 Thumb-ups

After being downloadable on VODO for three weeks now, SNOWBLIND is now the featured production on the start page! Nice going :D

In those three weeks, the film has been downloaded over 130.000 times - not bad at all! Still we hope the frontpage promotion will give another boost to downloads as the numbers have declined lately.

If you haven't downloaded the film yet, you can do so at
http://vodo.net/tdDq

A rather disappointing development is that people's willingness to donate for free movies has steeply declined. While previous Vodo releases like The Yes Men Fix The World or Pioneer One have gathered tens of thousands of dollars worth of donations, recent films like Person Of Interest, Four Eyed Monsters or Snowblind got a couple hundreds at best.

So, if you want to support us, why don't ypou take a look at our webstore. We have high-res versions of Snowblind, bonus materials as well as the sound track for sale in the form of instant downloads. Check it out at

Thanks,
Kalle-Max =)

Not a bad idea Sami, but the 100megs limit makes it pretty useless for us. Everything we're selling in our payloadz-store is >300 megs...

For those of you who haven't seen it:

Hello Kalle.

Have you tried movie distribution to itunes via
http://www.tunecore.com/store/product/88

They mostly work for recording artists but they also have a department for indie movies. I bet you guys meet the requirements.

Cheers,

Peter

That's true, but for independent film companies it's very hard to get on iTunes. There are some companies that offer the service of doing it for you, for about $1200 or something like that. So we would need about 1500 buyers to make that money back - and from what we've learned so far, this will never happen. Mind you, out of 250,000 thousand viewers, less than 100 have supported us by buying or donating!

Probably it would more efficient to put it on iTunes Store and ask 1$ for download. It's so few, that people won't think paying it, and also they will watch it, since they paid one dollar.

Well Sami the problem is, our webstore has a monthly fee of $14.99 ... and believe it or not; we are hadly making those 15 bucks back! So producing any "hardware" merchandise is totally out of the question as you don't need to be Einstein to calculate the chance of a profit =/
If sales still don't go up after we have released the 3D version, we'll close the shop down and that's that. Thanks a lot, web 2.0 ;P

Keep the faith. You will sell the merc longer than a medium H-wood production. Just keep the shop open an filled with all sorts and priced goods. :)

Not "Getting" enought according to PayPal account :D But seriosuly i dont mind. It was set up mostly because it was easy to set up. Anything coming thru there is just bonus that can be used to empower things, otherwise might not get that much attention.

Samuli I don't think this is necessarily so... I'm getting the feeling that Snowblind might seem a little "too professional" so people don't get that it's a "fan made" production almost like Star Wreck. Reading how aggressivley some people are badmouthing the film, I really have no other explanation ^_^ So I guess with Materia having strong roots in Blender community and so on, most people will "get" what it is and react accordingly...

If projects like snowblind are having hard time of getting donations, it means it is nearly impossible to get them for something like what i am working on.
