Newest Promo Version Up

Posted March 19, 2010 by Lee Crystal 2 Thumb-ups

I got the animation redone. The newest version of the unfinished promo is up.

Also on Productions main page.

I took some helpful advice and will be taking two shot variation shots to add in. I won't add them in until I get the next round of animation finished. This will be the landing sequence. At lest three shots. High above, more retro fire, landing with dust up (I hope LOL). As you can see from the test animation;

I have a good idea how I'm going to do it. The finished version will have more elelemts. (Including the landing pads squeezing together some.)

After these there will be the lab package animation. It won't be like what you see in the test.

Your welcome.

But I don't think you need to redo the camera work, just set the movement graphs interpolation mode to Bezier. If it works like Blender it should mean that your keyframes will show up as graphs in the graph editor. Location X Y and Z and Rotation X Y and Z are the ones your are looking for.

Ok, I'll take some time and look at that before making any new scenes and look at redoing the others. Thanks for the input.

Well, mainly camera control, it really needs to be smoother. But also for the deceleration burn, the way it stops now I figure the crew would be smudge on the wall... The maneuvering thrusts are so short that I think it might actually be easier to keep those curves linear (Oxymoron?), but if you want correct motion in minute detail you need to have smooth curves during the maneuvering burns with constant rotation speed when there is no burn.

For camera control or ship control?

I think I have it. I've just not messed with it yet.
I still need to figure out camera following too. So far the ship is not the object moving. Everything else is. With the exception of the last shot. It's moving some.

Thanks for the help and feed back. I really need to try using more stuff. Lately I've been doing to much at the same time. (Write, help with a story project with related artwork, create my Lazy Sue stuff, run a few websites including my chuches. (That's not counting the other projects I placed on the back burnner. :) )

Did you find that Graph editor?

In blender you can chooze Bezier curves as interpolation type between key frames. That's why the space scene that currently is viewable on Stick Wrecks main page is not as jerky as yours.

I found a product page that says you can animate between keyframes with Bezier curves in Carrara. So the keyword you are looking for to enable in the graph-editor is Bezier, possibly coupled with the word Interpolation. Then, if it works similarly to Blender, you just need to choose the keyframe coordinates and edit them the same way you edit curves in Photoshop or Gimp or any vector drawing program. Blender also has a make curves smooth option, so look for something like that first.

Hum, need to look at the physics of that again, I think your right. Needs to slow down with a thruster burn at the front.

I'll need a way to come up with showing that.

Thanks for the input.

In the first video, it feels very strange that you have it coming in as if it is accelerating, then suddenly it stops and you have realistic firing of thrusters to maneuver. Somewhere you need to decide if you are making a level of space opera.

Yes, your right about the landing.
It's just a test to see how all the items I created would look in an animation. The instument package will be shot in the last sequence.

Looks nice!

The zoom-in changes speed a bit too quickly maybe?

Re-do of animation.

Posted February 22, 2010 by Lee Crystal 1 Thumb-up

I recently did about 17 seconds more of animation and was about to render another 10 seconds only to realize I had a problem. My comet wasn't rotating the best way and in the right direction for my thruster burns and insertion into it's obit for the Lazy Sue orbit.

I realized the first two parts didn't match up well at all so I fixed al three sections and now It will be consistant. Needless to say an update for the promo work will be delayed until I can render it all again. Howevr, looking at it all I think it will be a better animation since I made a few extra tweeks as well.

I may even experiment on a number of character ideas and animations. I will consider given blender a try for do it as well based on suggestions I've gotten here.
