WHAT BECAME OF US is a movie about class reunion – a tale of gathering of the former elementary school classmates.

Jarkko and Erika are the romantic couple of the story. They’ve been together since the playground and they share an interesting love-hate relationship. Unknowingly they love each other more than just as friends, and their close relationship is driving other potential partners away.

Toni is the suspense factor of the tale. In the beginning of the movie we meet him in prison, convicted for a crime committed near the Finno-Russian border. It is his connections with the Russian criminals who got him in trouble in the first place, and they are relentlessly following him into Finnish soil.

Claus is the mystery character. His story begins in the confinement of a mental institute and not much is known about him. Only that he is sitting on a wheelchair, legs broken. Claus has a very peculiar outlook on life and occasionally he suffers from violent outbursts. He is constantly talking to other patients about his plans to escape to Sweden.

These threads of plot intertwine during the movie, as they are all related to something that happened over fifteen years ago in a local school of a quiet town. A shocking incidence sparked by bullying at school has left its mark on everyone.

At the climax of the story is the class reunion, set on a cruise ship. In the chilling night even the most kept secrets of the past are revealed by the salty sea wind. Only the debt of gratitude of one teased young man can save the classmates from certain death.
