New poster

Posted November 25, 2009 by Daniel Saarimäki 3 Thumb-ups

The old poster was made quickly and it had many problems. Now I have a new poster:

Say what you like about it.

I got a new logo suggestion ready. Is it better than the old one? http://www.wreckamovie.com/system/shot_medias/0000/2904/Logo2.jpg.png

I uploaded the new poster. I changed the flame colour. What do you like about it now?

Daniel Saarimäki November 27, 2009 14:16 Flag

I am going to remodel the logo allmost totally again!!! Thanks to you XD

I fix those flames and upload the edited poster soon. You have to wait a bit longer for that logo (I'm going to animate it too)

David Jansson November 26, 2009 15:29 Flag

Oh, and if you make the tentacles entwined in the text a bit thinner that would help too. They don't need to be thinner at the base, just make them taper.

David Jansson November 26, 2009 15:26 Flag

Just be careful so the text doesn't start to dominate the image too much.

David Jansson November 26, 2009 15:24 Flag

I think the problem with the text is from all the deep bright shades of colours. It's a bit chaotic colour wise, which I think works or this image. But it makes the text kind of drown in everything else.

I think the text would be more visible if just made it more uniform and more opaque (less transparent). You can give an object a personal light that only affects that object, right? So, try to make the text just a bit more opaque and light it directly from the front.

Daniel Saarimäki November 26, 2009 12:55 Flag

I can try that orange, but I can't make it right now.

I agree with Jani, that I'm getting better with every shot :) Thanks to everybody who have made this possible!

That character on the poster isn't either Sample or even stickman. That's my old model for monster. I were thiking about making that model to look more like a stickman (as I have done to basic human model, images coming soon) but because I have used this model in so many posters and images, I think I'm going to remain it. Some few changes could be made... What about short tentacles all over the body... It would make it to look more like a monster.

That title is a bit tricky. The contrast of my movie is going to be high, and that logo should be visible on white AND black surface, so fully bright logo isn't good. Propably one reason why it's so hard to read, are those tentacles. I want those tentacles to the logo, but specially with "l" letter, they create a problem. I try to low the tentacle ammount a bit. Making that text brighter is not an option, so does anyone know a better bay to do it??? Maybe a colour change, but what colour is good...

And Jani, if you want to learn 3D, I can teach you something XD

Jani Salomaa November 26, 2009 02:03 Flag

Whoa, that's some huge learning process you're going through with this film.. It's still cool. You are getting way better with every single shot!

Keep at it! You are making me ashamed I can't do any 3D work!

With the latest shot, I feel like you have a cool creapy character there with the stickman. But you've again lost the title. I just can't read Sample from the text.

Looking from far away you can't really tell it says 'sample'.

What i'd do, is to try to make the text brighter (some kind of inside glow), or almost white. As the background is dark, light colours should bring it out.

David Jansson November 25, 2009 23:11 Flag

Blue and red are both primary colours and they are tricky to combine in a good way, but red and green are complementary colours. Could you try making the flames orange, closer to red than yellow, and see how it turns out?

Daniel Saarimäki November 25, 2009 18:33 Flag

I chaned the fire colour into blue. I hope you like it. It's a bit dark for a poster, but I think it's now quite fine... It's still a hughe improvement from the old one. I'm not propably going to animate this, because this isn't my final poster (again)... I have a vision of a final poster in my head but it needs some models that I haven't finished yet (jeep, robot, assistant etc.). I'm going to animate that poster.

Maybe a bit more yellow in the flames so that the figure doesn't get lost in the fire.

Peter Vesterbacka November 25, 2009 10:47 Flag

I think it's much better than the one you had before, but it's a bit dark for a poster. Doesn't really stand out and a bit hard to see what it's about. Maybe you should do a motion poster like the one the guys did for Iron Sky? Ie an animated poster for use online. Just a thought.

Basic stickman model ready

Posted November 09, 2009 by Daniel Saarimäki 0 Thumb-ups

I have had hell of a mesh with my basic stickman model.

The first model I made seemd good, but it had one BIG problem. THIS MOVIE IS STICKMAN MOVIE AND IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE STICKMAN AT ALL! You can see it here:

The second model looked like stickman but it was made my cylinders, wich don't deform or subsurf nicely.

Now I have made the third stickman model. It's made from subsurfed cubes and it looks like a stickman! I have had problems with its armature but they are mostly solved now. Only thing left is to make face textures and separate other models like scientist and mutant from it. That's it!

Images coming soon!

Wery funny!!

A joke for you!

What happens to Sample when he dies?
He becomes an EXample!

Hahahaha!

Daniel Saarimäki November 10, 2009 16:24 Flag

NO NOSE! Absolutely no!!! Not just because it won't fit when it's flat, but have you ever seen a stickman with a nose??

You should play "Stick Arena Ballistics". There are lots of typical stickman faces in the start menu and the loading screen is also good. Link here:

David Jansson November 10, 2009 06:48 Flag

What are you looking for in the facial features? I suggest no nose as that would look strange when flat.

Daniel Saarimäki November 09, 2009 18:37 Flag

Looking for help with the face textures (eyes and mouth). I'm not so good 2D artist.
