A rhyme dictionary

Posted May 16, 2010 by Johan Halmén

I once created a "rhyme dictionary" in the following way. I cracked a dictionary that OpenOffice uses. I reversed the words so that they were spelled backwards. Then I alphabetized them. Then I reversed them again. Now I had a nice list of words in alphabetical order according to the end of the word. Here's a snippet from the dictionary:

goon
lagoon
dragoon
Rangoon
typhoon
loon
saloon
Pantaloon
doubloon
balloon
Walloon
Kowloon
moon
half-moon
honeymoon
noon
forenoon
afternoon
mid-afternoon
lampoon
harpoon
spoon
salt-spoon
teaspoon
tablespoon
Witherspoon
macaroon

Of course it isn't fool proof, but you can use it in a creative way. If you're looking for words rhyming with spoon, you might find some in the list above. But you should also figure out an alternative spelling that might rhyme as well, like "tune". Then you look up "tune" and might find a suitable word for your lyrics.

I will put the dictionary somewhere here, where it can be downloadable.
