(null) > General Feedback about the animation > Cool concept Any feedback about Computer Vs. Mouse would be appreciated.
I know there's no soundtrack yet but that will be added soon, see the sound effects task if you're interested in helping.
(Bear in mind this is my first ever animation! Also bear in mind it was done in 2 and a half days from start to finish, including writing, storyboarding, buying supplies, building models, shooting, editing etc.)

I found the work very impressive. I hope to learn more from these small animations.

Thanks Anup! :)
I learnt a lot from doing this. I made a lot of mistakes, but it was a good experience.

Nice little tale.. The music fits the tone perfectly. I would never ever have the patience to do stop motion animation, so kudos for that.
I don't agree it's too slow, but maybe a little facial animation of the mice could've helped tell what they were thinking better.
Also the lighting changes the tiniest bit throughout the flick. I know it's hard to do a completely controlled environment, though.

Thanks Jani. :)
I should definitely have done the mice a bit differently at the beginning, to get across the situation better.
Lighting was, like you guessed, mostly out of my control. There were lots of people in the same room doing their own animations, and there was a window with daylight coming in too. However, I actually quite like the flickering of the light, gives it a silent film kind of feel... :)
The animation took something like 2000 frames, so imagine taking 2000 digital photographs in a row and that's what it basically involved. But the equipment was really basic, I might post a photo so people see how easy it is to make one of these nowadays.

Poor computer, it looks soooo sad.
Like the others, I think a little bit faster would have been nice. It looks real and (even if I know nothing about animated movies) it's a nice start!!!

"Poor computer, it looks soooo sad."
That's the effect I was looking for... :D That's why I repeated the computer at the end after the credits.
I know the beginning is a bit slow. The original idea was that it would be the mice talking about how scared they are of the computer. One was meant to creep forward deliberately slowly, but I didn't quite get the fear across in how they move.
Ah well, hopefully can do it better next time. :)
I know nothing about animated movies, this was totally new to me. It's not that difficult to do though, all you really need is a digital camera, a tripod and basic video editing software. And time, you need time.

A faster edition would improve your work. I felt that your clip could have lasted half as it did. Congrats.

I think the final version is much better with the sound. I don't know if it was intentional, but few times the music and action were nicely in sync (during 'the next day...' and after the fake mouse is being pushed forward).
I agree with others, it could have been a bit faster.
Which software did you use to create the animation? Did you use a dedicated stopmotion software?

Kari, thanks for the feedback, very useful.
"I agree with others, it could have been a bit faster."
The bit at the beginning is supposed to be slow, the idea is that the two mice are terrified of the computer so one stays still and the other just creeps forward.
However, everyone's said the animation is too slow, so clearly people didn't get this! :-)
This is probably the main lesson I have to learn from this animation. If I did this animation again I would include something to make sure the viewer knows the mice are too scared to move quickly.
"I don't know if it was intentional, but few times the music and action were nicely in sync"
I went to great lengths to make sure the music and action are in sync, thank you for noticing. :-)
"Which software did you use to create the animation? Did you use a dedicated stopmotion software? "
Interestingly enough no, I used a standard video editor (Adobe Premiere Elements 7). I asked the course teacher about this and she said this is what she does nowadays. She said they used to use dedicated stuff in the old days but nowadays it was simpler just to use your normal video editor.
First of all I set the software's default photo frame length to be 1/12th of a second (to get the required 12 fps), then imported all of the animation's photos from my camera, and exported the whole lot as a video file.
I then edited this video file just like a normal video, because that's what it was in effect as the photos were now running at 12fps. It was the editing software that allowed me to add the titles, lightning effects and inverted colour scenes.
