Opera by You > NEW TASK: Stage Direction > Scene 1 Stage Directions by: Nancy Somerville
I've inserted some suggested stage directions into a PDF of the Scene 1 Libretto (attached)and highlighted them in yellow

In this scene the choir represents, to me, the mass conciousness of people on earth, looking towards heaven for help. I'd suggest the choir be standing stage right in the 'earth' section of the stage, facing heaven. Or possibly even facing choir members in all different directions, creating more of a stormy sea of people--not so much the 'one mindset' implied by them all facing the same way.
Either way it seems like the choir should be in shadow, keeping the focus on the angels.

Hi Nancy
Good. This will give clear ideas how angels are moving on the stage. Give your ideas how you would use the choir on the stage ?

Opera by You > NEW TASK: Stage Direction > RE: Disturbing Images by: Sabrina Pena Young
I'm all about disturbing imagery. These are a few shots from my oratorio "Creation" and "World Order #5".
Anyway, I know I can create some stills that can go for the background imagery, if that's where we are going.
(This the link for the video with some of these images).

Hope that is helpful. Stock images are great, too. Maybe you can do some overlays of fire and destruction with the stock footage.

Extremely fascinating and even scary to the part of disturbing. But I still think that because of balance we need absolute contrast also with this, the beautiful pics.
Opera by You > NEW TASK: Stage Direction > Pictures reflected to the screen by: Daniel Vizitescu
This emegency meeting is about the turmoil in the world. Somehing like in the attached pictures. All in black and white shaded. NO MUSIC, just images.

To create contrast, I suggest that on the video we have both beautiful as well as these miserable pictures/videos, it makes it more effective. Strobolike jump cuts and also slowed down film, both colour & black and white. It should not be too messy. Anything goes: war peace, religion, entertainment, drawings, nature, history, amateur videos, adds, news. The video I think could give you some ideas is by Steve Vai:" For the love of God", on YouTube:

Opera by You > NEW TASK: Stage Direction > Ideas for Projection by: Sabrina Pena Young
Hello,
I am not sure if that's what you want the stage to look like, but as I read the libretto and listened to the music, I thought of something more organic. Here are some links to some ideas. For example, you can use the power of the stage to bring forth some of the characters and calamities mentioned through the use of careful choreography. Here's a link for an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWmVgsZ2vto
Also, skip to 6:42

Also, I am not sure how familiar you are with using fabric and projection, but you can do some incredible simulations (fire, water, etc.) using carefully placed fabrics and projection. This is an old trick, but the stage above looks like it needs some life.
Just for fun, you should include the audience in the opera. Maybe have characters dressed like Attila the Hun or Joan of Arc, or the Devil (or even God) in the audience. They can interact, or just sit and exit when their part is done. Would be interesting to have God sitting around, maybe the balcony, if there is one. I love having the audience become more than spectators. :)

Opera by You > VOTE: Real Mozart - which music? > #1 by: Enrico De Zottis
Symphony 41 "Jupiter".

My computer connection has been broken to wreckamovie and it does not allow to give shots, but I hereby ´vote #1 Jupiter. It´s vivid, wakes you up! and gives alot of possibilities to create contrasts on stage with people, lights, movements, videos. It has also some soothing, slowish parts which makes it full of details.

Opera by You > VOTE: Real Mozart - which music? > What? Why? by: Phillip Wayne
We already have a lot of good music (all of which we have written) Why not use our music here also?
Just quauestion.

Mozart sounds so vivid and suits the atmoshere and it´s the borrowed of old(castle) & blue(Saimaa). This one gives a lot of opportunities to people on stage, soft and fast movement, lights. It also has slow parts, very nice music.
Lets us play with robot moments, stiff performances like photos made of a bunch of people, darkness vs. light, strobo light, lightning strikes.Marvelous choice.Wakes up!
Opera by You > NEW TASK: Stage Direction > Another thought for pictures by: Phillip Wayne
Since we are looking for pictures of chaos, and we are doing this mainly for a Finnish audience, perhaps a set of movies from the Winter War, and the german armies burning Finland to the ground. There are a LOT of these moves, and they are profoundly disturbing.
BUT, isn't that what we want?

Hi Phillip
Yes, we are looking for pictures of chaos, violence, suffering, disaster etc. So why not pictures of the war .

Opera by You > Free Will marketing planning - some instructions > Doing a Virtual Launch Party by: Sabrina Pena Young
Hola!
Thought I could help out with some marketing ideas. Although I am still in production for my virtual opera, I am working on a Virtual Launch Party. I am putting together about 100 press packs (with DVDs of Libertaria) to give out to 100 venues that will screen the DVD and host their own Virtual Launch Party. I also hope to contact music reviewers and respected members of my field (classical and electroacoustic music), hopefully in the hopes of having some reviews and press this way.
This might be a helpful way to help you launch the opera. I am trying to make this opera open to the masses, per se', so I am opening it up to venues both in academia and more popular venues - festivals, dance clubs, galleries, film clubs, student groups, museums, libraries, indie theaters, private individuals who can host a screening party, etc. Also launching it online.
Planning on doing some merch too, on Zazzle.com, although that is later in the project. It doesn't make much in revenue, but can help bring awareness to the project. Silkscreening is more affordable, if you can set it up. (Used to teach art, so all about DIY). :)
I also write and have publicized the opera through magazines/journals/sites I write for.
BTW, I was asked to write a journal article on my virtual opera, and would love to include input about Opera By You in this article. Won't happen for a little while (probably summer), but if you want to send me a few links with some info, I can help spread the word.
Hope that helps some! :) AWESOME project!

Sounds great! :) If you can send it to my inbox. Now that my opera is rolling through music production, I have a little more time since I am not composing 24/7! Would be great to have a blurb about the event, date, location, etc. (nice and short) so I can blast it through my various channels.
