(More or less) weekly update

Posted February 23, 2010 by Matti Delahay 2 Thumb-ups

Last week was busy enough that I didn't have time to write a longer update - while the writer team is still ahead of schedule, we've already started on some tasks assigned for next month including (but not limited to):

- dialog (writing, design, scripting and testing)
- design of the dialog system GUI
- preliminary planning of the inventory system
- planning and implementing the character modeling/development system

I'm confident in arguing that there will be a couple of nice innovations within some of these fields that haven't been seen much (if at all) in other games.

Finally, as always, a big welcome to all our new members (not far from our first hundred now!) and equally big thank you for all of you for posting very inspirational shots and comments, always a pleasure reading them. :)

A brief status update

Posted February 12, 2010 by Matti Delahay 4 Thumb-ups

This week was very busy but also saw quite a lot of progress, effectively bringing the writer team ahead it's set schedule. We've now got an almost complete version of our gameworld design document and quite well fleshed plans for the main character types (including backgrounds and main missions/goals). We also got to test the dialog system a bit (it's suprisingly fun to see a pile of painstakingly written script to turn into a coherent dialogue) and discussed the new character models with Risto and the graphics team. If things go well, I'm expecting to have some reference graphics to show you in the near future.

As suggested by Kris, we'll also try to take a short break from the fascinating world of game design and take a few "behind the scenes" -photos of the offices soon to give you a glimpse of the undeniable glamour of games industry. :D

Last but not least, keep up the great work, everyone! Even though we haven't had that much active time to spend on WAM lately, we read everything posted here and many of your ideas have already found their way into the design documents. :)

Thanks again everyone, we're doing our best. :)

Kris: That too... It's not many days ago I witnessed someone here eating a "hamburger" made of two microwave pizzas and a couple of small sausages.

Can't wait to see your ideas for the main characters.

"to give you a glimpse of the undeniable glamour of games industry."

...and also see the high-class food that Finnish office workers consume.

It is an honour and privilege to be connected to a project like this, through wreckamovie. Thank you very much, Matti and team, for bringing us such nice interactive spirit and encouraging us to dream a computer game together. ;)

That is once again absolutely superb news. I am sure many hearts will warm up at the thought of WAM ideas having reached their way into your design documents... mine sure has! Carry on the great work and we'll be looking forward to seeing the photos! ;)

Smell of progress in the air

Posted February 05, 2010 by Matti Delahay 4 Thumb-ups

Things are definitely moving on with the production - this week and last week we had very productive core team meetings in which we made some very detailed schedules for the next couple of months. Next week we'll be kicking in a high gear with the production and very soon we're also expecting to have more material to show you! Overall, it's going to be one busy year, but I can't deny I'm looking forward to it!

Also, big welcome to Matti Kortet, a new member to our writer team. A long time friend of mine as well as a person I've worked with before in similar projects, I'm confident he'll be a fine addition to our current core team. You'll most likely be seeing him around here too, since he'll also be participating in community management.

With the other Matti aboard, our production member count here at Wreckamovie already reached 80 - a heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who's supported us so far! It's been great working with you all during the past couple of months. No plans on stopping here either, we're certain there are still lots of people out there who would like to work with us on making the game better - if you know such people (or have good channels to reach them), feel free to point them our way. :)

Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Welcome Matti K! :)

Jani: Come on, hanging here is part of the job too. :D Who'll gather all the best and brightest ideas into my Enchanted Design Notes of Documentation +1 otherwise? :D

On a more serious note, of course my WAM time will be somewhat more limited in the future when other tasks take more time, especially during the most busy times (around beta and before actual publication), but even then I'll be checking the community daily for any new shots/comments and posting updates as frequently as possible. :)

Welcome onboard!

Welcome to WAM, Matti no.2! Hope you can share the load with Matti no.1. Sometimes it seems he does no work, only hangs with us here ;)

Yes, the amount of Matti in this project is starting to get alarmingly high, but we here at Operation Highjump try our best to channel this force of nature for the better of mankind. Let's just stay calm and hope for the best!

Oh, and thanks! I try my best not to disappoint!

Join Operation Highjump: now with **DOUBLE** Matti!

Seriously, a big welcome to Matti K. Seen how highly Matti D. speaks of you, I'm sure the production will greatly benefit from your contributions! :)
