Happy Holidays!

Posted December 19, 2009 by Matti Delahay 3 Thumb-ups

As you might have noticed, the year is drawing close to it's end, which means at least two things:

1) Many people around the world exchange gifts and/or otherwise celebrate things they hold dear.

2) Along with many of these people, I'll be vacationing a bit, which for me means spending quite a lot of time offline with my family during the next 2+ weeks.

You're more than welcome to keep posting and commenting in our tasks in my absence - I'll certainly read everything sooner or later - just don't get too mad if I'm (even) slower than usual to respond. :)

I'll pop in now and then (if the somewhat challenged network conditions at my current location allow it) to keep an eye on the new shots/conversation
and will certainly keep an eye on my e-mail for personal messages too, but any heavy duty wrecking will have to wait until I'm back to work.

Thanks to all of you for making our first months of Wrecking a great experience - I'm fairly certain that without you we wouldn't have this community. :P

Looking forward to keeping up the good work with everyone here next year. :)

Best wishes and appropriate seasonal greetings from me and the rest of the team,

Matti Delahay

Spammers about

Posted December 07, 2009 by Matti Delahay 2 Thumb-ups

There's already been a couple of shots about this at the Wreckamovie Platform -production, but looks like we've had a mass spammer around during the weekend, sending the following private message to (probably) everyone on Wreckamovie:

"hello dear

Hell Dear

I am Vivian Dabah, 22yrs old girl from Sudan . I read your profile, and find it truly interesting. That is why I am contacting you so that we can get to know each other better for personal relationship, beside I have a special issue to discuss with you on a very serious note. I can be reached through this Email:([address removed]). Hope to hear from you soon. I will send my pictures to you and also tell you more about my self when you reply me. All I need is your understanding and interest for more information about me. Take care as I wait for your response through my private email address above.

Yours, Vivian"

It's a fairly obvious fraud to anyone familiar with the other similar types (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_fraud), but as Andrej suggested, it's better safe than sorry: don't reply it and don't give any money or personal details to the spammer(s), that's what they're after. Just delete the message, the great folks at Wreckamovie are already working to make it more difficult for spammers and spambots in the future.

On a different note, our production reached 60 members during the weekend, a big welcome to the new members!

Hope you all had a great weekend,
Matti Delahay

Damn Spammers... really gets annoying after a while.

Ronen Khazin February 01, 2010 16:17 Flag

Right, seems that they're back, with a different name however. Here's what I got:

I am waiting for your mail to my email address above please i have something very very important i will like to tell you.I believe we can start from here!
Remeber the distance or colour does not matter but love matters alot in life.

Spencer Lunsford December 14, 2009 07:13 Flag

Yes. She actually contacted me and I responded to her email. I sorta played along with it. After 4 returned messages from "Vivian" I thought that I should stop the fun and report the IP Address and email to my local FBI Offices here in the United States. I assure you that they are looking into this and the scam-er will be caught in do time.

Benjamin Arntzen December 08, 2009 22:46 Flag

I got this too - I figured spammers would find this place eventually, it just sucks that they did.

Keep up the great work regardless - and congratulations on 60 members.

Charles Anderson December 08, 2009 21:04 Flag

LOL I got this one too, Vivian Dabah must be a slut :-)

Ronen Khazin December 08, 2009 01:08 Flag

Thank you for posting this. I was concerned but I deleted it the moment I got it. I managed to get to the profile before it was deleted. The message says that she is from Sudan, but on the profile page, the location was New York.

Peter Vesterbacka December 07, 2009 17:38 Flag

Matti, thanks for posting this, all help in fighting the spammers is most welcome! And congrats on hitting 60 members already, great job!

Updated Synopsis

Posted December 03, 2009 by Matti Delahay 6 Thumb-ups

I updated the synopsis of the game, because it seems that it has been a bit ambiguous about certain facts:
* The game is set entirely on the Earth, not in the Moon.
* The game is set in year 1947, not 2018 like the movie.
* The game is in 3rd person and will most probably use an overhead camera.
* Although the plot may give the player changes to switch sides, all player characters will be American (scouts from Operation Highjump) or pro-American (insider-spy) in the beginning.

I must confess I initially tried to make sure the synopsis wouldn't reveal too much straight away - it's always nice to get some complete outsider perspective for the initial brainstorming. I clarified it a bit now, however, hopefully it will no longer mislead new members. :)

Also, 57 members in our production already, I'm impressed at your activity level! Since the first day, we've clinged onto the first place of the Most Active -list, and it doesn't take many new members before we're going past Sauna in amount of members. :)

Great to see new shots here daily and the comment threads on the shots are great sources of inspiration too. Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't miss an opportuinity to work on a game like this.

Christian Nommay December 04, 2009 19:20 Flag

Good thing you had clarify. It's great to be part of this adventure.

Matti Delahay December 04, 2009 11:13 Flag

Thanks for your support, everyone. :) Fighting my way through some very slow extra bureaucracy at this end, nice words certainly cheer me up.

Jonas Hesslöw December 03, 2009 17:17 Flag

And the fact that you gonna immortalize every member is a great honor.

Angela R. December 03, 2009 09:51 Flag

Well yeah, when the production leaders make all wreckers' contributions feel welcome and appreciated, it is virtually impossible not to want contributing more and more. ;)

Markus Koskivirta December 03, 2009 09:40 Flag

Thanks for the inspiring words, you're not half-bad yourself ;)

"You've been ultra-active on WAM and that creates corresponding activity by us wreckers."

Exactly, the more you put in the more you get out.

Jani Salomaa December 03, 2009 09:33 Flag

The updated synopsis clarifies a lot for the new members.

Keep up the good work there, too. You've been ultra-active on WAM and that creates corresponding activity by us wreckers.

Well done Matti and the ISOH team. :)

Angela R. December 03, 2009 09:19 Flag

...and a well-managed, great fun project to work on. A real pleasure! :D

Peter Vesterbacka December 03, 2009 09:14 Flag

Keep up the great work! A really excellent start!
