HEGIRA > Ideas for narrative/plot/alternative story solutions > narrator
by: Stig-Magnus Gjerald

I put a post in the who and why finds out task about a reporter getting killed. How about using him as narrator. not real time, but somehow use recordings of his theories on what he believes to be the inner workings on the organization.

now i have added a female politician, that was on the verge of fallin into a serious drug and alcohol abuse (because of the high pressure position at the job) and her chauffeur, (that is in reality within this organisation of illegal workers) feels pity for her, so takes her under its wings and frankly abducts the politican away to one of the skyscrapers, for rehab with change of environment and fresh food. the politician falls for the simple gardening tasks, and become renewed in spirit and soul... what do you think? am I on the right track here?

HEGIRA > Who and why is finding out about these people/communities ? > Urban Explorers?
I want to get ideas and input on something dramatic, that will happen in the middle of the film. I am thinking about an investigative reporter that stumbles upon this scheme. (By reading financial reports for the stock market analysts...???) Another one is a small group of UrbanExplorers or GPS-Geo-Noders that climb and search different office buildings and deserted industries and so on... Base-jumpers? Graffiti-artists? A lame way to introduction (for the movie viewer) is to get a newly arrived person, that will ask questions and be told instructions (by people already in the routines) so to explain for the movie viewer what is going on. (but this has been overused in all the police films and thrillers already) Shoot! :D

I have started to think about GPS-scavengers, Geo-caching, photographers breaking into places to take photos of unused spaces, and even BASE-jumpers, paragliders, parachute-jumpers, extreme climbers that attempt to overcome tall houses...

because I think that the people running this organisation should be pretty oblivious about any "threat of exposure" and be very safety-oriented towards normal expected threats, like police, immigration officers, customs...

I have been thinking alot about the moral side of these entrepreneurial africans scamming european companies. What if they have a code of honour? that they try to do their bit of surviving and getting money to their families back home, with as little damage as possible on "innocent" people?

Then it is possible to build them up as "heroes", and to have another group added as protagonists, that scam ruthlessly, and it will become a match, and the audience will root for the "good guys" that does their scamming intelligently and "friendly"

???

HEGIRA > Locations? > Cities
by: Peter Vesterbacka

I vote for using real cities, makes it easier to believe. Not sure on how many you want, but I would suggest: Barcelona - such a cool city Madrid - in Spain Paris - lots of African influence, tall buildings around Defense Stockholm - not used nearly enough in movies Frankfurt - lots of tall buildings Glasgow - not London;-) Maybe already too many cities, but I think would be nice to have a few.

HEGIRA > Ideas for narrative/plot/alternative story solutions > narrator
This story have got some important plot elements, but not yet a clear narrative. I have a couple of ideas for main characters and storyline, but i will sit on those for a while, so i can get relatively fresh ideas from your creative minds. Without a great plot this could just as well be an art project or whatever. So please give me suggestions in that way too. --- The place where the characters live is on top of tall office buildings, (in several european capitals) They gain access to these places by pretending to run a business where they take care of all maintenance and security and so on of the complete office building. Then they can discretely construct camouflaged walls to copy/imitate the colour and structure of the exterior of the house, and construct an additional floor, secret to any outsiders. (during a night or a weekend) They can live there, grow crops, use the buildings infrastructure for free (electricity, water, internet connections and so on). Communication will be needed between different building-top-cities. They will barter/distribute different crops between eachother, and also sell some crops in market places. --- The method of transport of money and supplies back to africa is with a tube that is placed in gibraltar straight, the shortest distance between the african and european continent is 15-16.000 meters. So an airtight plastic tube with a motorised "ski-lift-system" can be put in the water and submerged to the depth of the sea when not in use. When transports should take place, they lift the tube up to a couple of meters just below sea level, invisible from ships or planes. It could also be pumps in a couple of places to press down oxygen into the tube and get rid of co2. With a relatively slow speed, you could transport people/money through this tube in 20-30 minutes.

To me the investigative reporter thing is a tad overused...How about you start with a reporter wich later gets killed(make it clear he is the protagonist, then whack him:-).
this is seen by a freerunner(parkour), and here he suddenly becomes the protagonist.freerunners arent much used in films as far as i know, and with its popularity rising its an easy way to add some action.

Need to think more now:-)

Is it important to define which cities in Europe that this scheme develop a base in? Must it be cleverly planned? the choices could be random depending on where there are tall office buildings with flat roofs? These people must seem to be able to improvise and create infrastructure in smart and cheap ways. There is established that it is EU, and that people come from Africa, via Gibraltar straight. But can it be made-up city names? or does it have to be genuine to be more effective and convincing to viewers? Also, give example for interesting tall buildings in interesting cities.

What is there in Publics general knowledge that my characters can play around with, and make fun of, or use as business cover up ???

In sweden there is an old urban myth, that people in general know about, they are saying that if you order a pizza bolognese: the meat in it is from rats or from cat food cans.

Prejudices against african people is pretty many, and easy to write down, but how could this be used by my african business leader to be convincingly honest, or what...???

All people with dreadlocks smoke pot? Send out a person wearing dreadlocks as a decoy, so he will get the attention from drug police???

be creative! shoot!

Help me, I am open-minded and new to this forum, so I just realized that you might have more ideas on tasks I will need to add.

Shoot, give suggestions on what I need to ask from the creative members out there...
