Jani Salomaa gave a shot "Gypsy locale in Munkkisaari" for Flag Burners - Lipunpolttajat

Flag Burners - Lipunpolttajat > The roughest looking place in Helsinki > Gypsy locale in Munkkisaari
The production coordinator is soon going to start scouting for locations, but maybe the Finns have some idea for one... One scene of the movie takes place outside in a really rough neighborhood with lots of drug users, skinheads and the like. I was originally thinking Piritori, but maybe it's too nice nowadays... Hardly anybody gets beaten up over there anybody. Maybe some newer suburbs have some suitably ugly looking plazas? Graffiti, trash, broken down buildings and naturally occurring narcs would be great... It doesn't have to be the toughest and the roughest, but it should look like it is. Remember, we're looking for specific locations, so "any corner in Jakomäki" is not enough! ;)

Haven't visited there myself, but the locales where the gypsies live in Munkkisaari or Kalasatama should look and feel pretty rough.

Flag Burners - Lipunpolttajat > Recommend capitalistic music > Would right-wingers listen to foreign-language music?
by: (null)

Maybe this is me being unfair to right-wingers, but I cannot imagine a typical "pro-American" household listening to music that isn't in English. Sarah Palin didn't even have a passport until she ran for office, and when did you last see an American president giving a speech in a foreign language? Or maybe I've misunderstood? Is this film going to present right-wingers in America or Finland or all over the world?

Aergh, I've been trying to think of suggestions but the only right-wing songs I can think of are pretty crude tracks intended for "junttis". I get the feeling these right-wingers are rather more sophisticated?

Maybe if this is in Finland maybe the poster should show a Finnish flag being burnt? That would make the concept totally clear straight away. :) (Also, "Republican" sort of threw me too. It can mean totally different things outside the US. In Britain it can mean someone who wants to abolish Royal Family for example, or it can mean someone who wants Northern Ireland to be part of the Irish Republic.)

Piritori is not nice at all! Helsinginkatu around it is a terrible place too. Just keep it.

Flag Burners - Lipunpolttajat > Recommend capitalistic music > top 50 conservative songs

Here's a top 50 conservative songs list from National Review reprinted in NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/25/arts/music/25brockweb.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1

Taxman is what most shocked me, why were the Beatles whining about taxes? Imagine if any band did that now, they'd totally lose their credibility.

Awesome list! I've always wondered why Sympathy For The Devil and The Beatles' Revolution had such uncool lyrics about upholding the status quo... What I'm looking for is essentially this list but with music we can afford to use :D

Flag Burners - Lipunpolttajat > Recommend capitalistic music > Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA
by: (null)

Yes, it's famous as a pro-American anthem but how many people realise that it isn't? The lyrics actually talk about someone losing their job, being abandoned by society and imply that the Vietnam war was a racist one. Yet so many people think it's some kind of brainless nationalist track... As a side-note, I believe Springsteen has forbidden any politicians from using the song at rallies, so if you hear it played it means the politician concerned is breaking copyright law. Obviously this song would be extremely expensive to use in any project so I understand why you wouldn't, but thought it might be interesting to know how a single song can simultaneously belong to totally opposite political camps.

Inneresting, indeed! The costs for American music are indeed too high, especially these pop classics. I hear just getting to rights to the songs can take months and months of work, even if you could pay for them.

Oh, sorry! I should've clarified that these are right-wingers in Finland, not US! Otherwise you'd be absolutely right.

Much of the film will happen at activist headquarters, hippie parties and such, and I have no problem coming up with music for those. But what would be a suitable soundtrack for right-wing events, bourgeois gatherings, upper class homes, the powers that be? If you were a young Republican, what would you listen to? Please add songs to the Spotify play list! spotify:user:revontuli:playlist:2PeUAqTCEI2Aeu8EzSSYbq For monetary reasons, I'd love to see tracks by non-American artists, even though this makes that task that much more difficult... Finnish songs, Swedish, French, Japanese, anything like that. Or any tracks released under a CC license, of course! (I'll make a separate task for left-wing music, so let's not include any socialist songs that the capitalists would listen to ironically :) PS. Don't be offended if you're not a right-winger and like the songs on the playlist. I have to like them as well, to put them in the movie :)
