Geniuses can appear out of nowhere tbh, but how about:

A normal middleclass guy, that realized he was superior intellectually to those around him, but because he was middleclass he could not go to the fancy schools, instead had some temp jobs,drifted abit without finding anything that could give him mental satisfaction.

So, he became a planner for criminals, without actually participating himself, found satisfaction in the hardest tasks and finding ways to solving problems by logical deduction and analysis.
He would be somewhat of a anti Holmes, instead of people coming to him to solve crimes & mysteries, they would have come to him to create them.

Dreams of finding someone of similiar intellect, a arch-nemesis, someone who can challenge him on a intellectual level.
If holmes was his hero, maybe give him bit of a tormented soul(like holmes was), from being an avid fan, to realizing he was the exact opposite of holmes, and that he was not worthy of having him as a hero.

His only reason for doing this would be the challenge of it, and the rush from accomplishing his task.

New task: Alien Ideas

Andy Hutchings created a new production "First We Dream"

Iain and Roy wake up from their respective dreams to find themselves in a holding cell aboard a ship that isn't human with aliens guarding the door. As they execute a plan to take over the ship, little pieces of information start filtering through to Iain as he slowly works out what has happened to them and how to get home.

An adventure story about two guys in an impossible situation trying to find reason. What is the device the aliens wear on their throats? What is wrong with the stars outside? Why is their written language so familiar? And what will happen when they work out the truth of their situation?

Two blokes from London in a cell in their underwear, and the only way out is through the hundreds of soldiers sharing the ship. But can Iain figure it out before Roy gets them both killed?
