Santiago (Santi) Chevalier is an ex officer of scientific police in Spain. but now he just spends his life adventuring in Africa...morocco..and other exotic countries.
he's recalled from the office in Madrid to a new mission: since he's the only Dominican that has been in that department,
he will have to go and guide Elena Montero, a historian, to go to El Faro a Colon in Santo Domingo and get a sample of some so called remains of Christopher Columbus -since the Dominican authorities don't give permission to do proper exams to define if those remains are of Columbus itself- that are in the Faro a Colon, a monument that was made for this purpose.
Since all the official negotiation didn't work out between governments, Santi and Elena have to go by there own, without official protection
or legal permits.
When they manage to open the crypt, for there surprise, they discover that the Faro a Colon is just a fachade, a mask to a tunnel that was made in the mid 80's.
There the adventure begins...when they discover that Columbus did in fact left a map for a treasure some were in the Dominican Republic, and that they are in the middle of the way of some other evil organization that's behind the treasure and wants to kill them.
At the end, they discover that even when there was a gold and pearl treasure that Columbus kept for his family because he felled betrayed by the Spainiard kings, the real goal was to show Santi, Elena and the new generations, that the Dominican Republic itself is a treasure. This was the real legacy from Christopher Columbus, this was the meaning of The Manuscript.
