It seems to me that this is an excellent opportunity to reinvent a very old idea. You could use this:

The Gods have grown careless. Decadent, lazy, and ignorant of their own lack of power. They revel in the worship given to them and don't realize that the power worshipped is not theirs. But the true beings of power have had enough, and are prepared to destroy these visible elements of their power. So starts a war between those whose power is mighty and unquestionable, and those who do not realize that while the others might have power over them, they are not entirely without the powers attributed to them. The enemy might be a Roman version of the Titans. Include the Fates, Man, and place a recognizeable timeline on it, maybe by mentioning a particular Roman leader (Caesar, Hadrian, Nero, etc.).

Di Immortales > General discussion for ideas > Chelsmsford 123

I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but there was an excellent British sitcom called Chelmsford 123 which was about Britain under Roman occupation in the year 123. It was very funny seeing the ancient Roman world in a sitcom context, and there was at least one episode which involved the Roman gods too. It's also the world's only sitcom to have entire scenes shot in Latin (though most of it is in English). Here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy4dBBFAyis

I think that it would be fun to have the series seen from the point of view of a perhaps insane but extremely pro Roman and anti-Greek writer who wants to recreate the Roman Mythology in order that it could compete against the Greek Mythology.
The first episode could be him getting the idea, and starting to travel from city to city over the entire Empire to get documentation about local beliefs and unawarely rebuilds during the episodes a full review of the real Roman Mythology, and fragments of his new version.
