Evan maailma särkyy kun hän saa yllättävän puhelun ystävältään Heliltä, joka kertoo että heidän miehensä ovat joutuneet kuvausmatkalla Pohjois-Suomessa outoon onnettomuuteen ja nyt Helin poikaystävä Pasi makaa sairaalassa koomassa ja Evan ex-miehestä Mikasta ja hänen tyttärestään Miiasta ei näy jälkeäkään. Peloissaan ja epätoivoisena Eva päättää matkustaa pohjoiseen ja haluaa selvittää mitä on oikeasti tapahtunut, sillä viranomaisten toimet eivät tunnu johtavan ratkaisuun. Selittämättömästä syystä Eva saa perheensä katoamisen jälkeen joka päivä samaan aikaan puhelun Mikan kännykästä kuulematta kuitenkaan mitään.

Evan saapuessa pieneen kylään Hiisivedelle, hän pian huomaa että kyläläiset eivät ole aivan tavallisia ihmisiä ja Hiisiveden tavat ja uskonto pohjautuvat vahvasti uuspakanalliseen muinaisuskoon. He ottavat Evan vastaan kohteliaasti, mutta samalla ovat ilmeisen salamyhkäisiä eivätkä tunnu kertovan kaikkea mitä Mikan ja Miian katoamiseen liittyy.

Koska Eva ei halua luovuttaa ja sanoa vielä viimeisiä hyvästejä, niin Eva päättäväisenä jää selvittämään kylän salaisuuksia. Salaisuudet ovat kuitenkin paljon oudompia ja vaarallisempia, kuin Eva pystyy kuvittelemaankaan.

Eva's world is shattered when she receives a surprising call from her friend Heli, who tells that their men have got into a strange accident in northern Finland and now Heli's boyfriend Pasi is lying in a hospital in a coma and there is no trace of Eva's ex-husband Mika and their daughter Miia. In a fear and desperation, Eva decides to travel north and she wants to find out what really happened, because the authorities' actions do not seem to lead to a solution. Eva inexplicably starts to recieve calls after her family's disappearence every day at the same time from his mobile phone, but without hearing nothing.

Eva arrives in a small village called Hiisivesi, and she soon discovers that the villagers are not ordinary people, and the Hiisivesi's religion is strongly based on a neopaganism mythology. They accept Eva politely, but at the same time the villagers are obviously secretive and do not seem to tell everything that relates to the disappearance of Mika and Miia.

Because Eva doesn't want to give up and say last goodbyes, Eva will stay and explore the village's secrets determinedly. But the secrets are much more unusual and dangerous than Eva is able to imagine.
